Congratulations to Tawa AFC who were crowned Division 1 Champions on Saturday after defeating Lower Hutt 6-0 in the final of the Powerex Tournament for the Hilton Petone Cup.
The tournament started in February, but due to Covid-19 lockdown had to be postponed until last weekend.
This is the 65th year of this preseason tournament and it will certainly go down in history as one of the longest on record, according to club secretary Barry Pickering when he presented the trophies following the game.
Tawa scored twice in the first half, and despite a number of chances Lower Hutt they were denied by the Tawa goalkeeper. Tawa extended their lead in the second half, with their final three goals coming in relatively quick succession.
This is the third win for Tawa since the introduction of tournament Divisions in 1987.
A huge thank you to all the players, supporters and officials and also to the Upper Hutt City Football Club for their ongoing support of the tournament. The date for the Division 2 final is still being confirmed.
